Hiking Sticks
Do your girls like the outdoors? Are you planning on doing some hiking in the future? Start now and make your own hiking sticks. I did these with my girls and they had them for years. Each time we took a hike, we wood burned the date on the stick. They held great memories over the years.
They can be as simple are as involved as you choose...from using an old broom stick to cutting and drying your own wood.

I think this is a great idea! When I was a kid, my family and I went camping all the time. My grandfather made me and my sister each a walking stick with old pieces of driftwood and burned our names, the place we camped at and the date, then sprayed it with shellac and put a hole at the top with a leather strap handle. I used it every time we went camping and I still have it yet today. My daughter loves taking it on hikes. Great idea for a troop to do, and you're right... I bet they'd cherish it just as much for the rest of their lives. It brings back lots of good memories.
