$5,000 Mountain Dew Scholarships For Community Leaders

Do Something has teamed up with Mountain Dew Voltage for a nationwide search
for the best young leaders and change-makers in America. Starting in
February, we will be granting money to groups of friends who are using their
energy around any cause to make their community a better place.

But before then, we want to hook up 6 winners with $5,000 scholarships to
celebrate their past achievements in organizing groups of people to bring
change to their communities! The winners will also get to be a featured part
of the launch event for Mountain Dew's newest beverage, Voltage, in January.
Additionally, they will also be invited to be a part of the judging panel
for our Spring grants program.

We're keeping the details of the launch event under wraps, but expect big
things. We'd tell you what it is, but it's more fun to keep you guessing.

The Saga of a Leader

PARENT: My daughter's just turned five, she'd like to join your ranks.
TRAINER: Oh, good! We need new leaders.
PARENT: I have no time, but thanks.

TRAINER: I'm sure you'll like it fine.
PARENT: I said I have no time.
TRAINER: The training starts on Monday, sign on the dotted line.

PARENT: My daughter's just turned eight, she'd like to fly up now.
TRAINER: The Leader's Guide will tell you, the where, the when, the how.
PARENT: I'm really rather beat, I'd like to take a rest.
TRAINER: You don't know what you're saying, the next two years are the best.

PARENT: My daughter thinks it's time, some camping she should do.
TRAINER: Well G.S. camp is just the place, we'll go along with you.
PARENT: I cannot sleep on cots, it hurts my back and head.
TRAINER: You really needn't worry, you'll never get to bed!

PARENT: My daughter tells me now, that day camp is the thing.
TRAINER: We need a dance director, and someone who can sing.

PARENT: I cannot dance a step, I cannot sing a song.
TRAINER: Well ten days in our day camp, we'll prove to you you're wrong.

PARENT: My daughter is now 12, I've really had it now
I've hiked and camped and cooked outdoors, you name it--I know how.
TRAINER: But can you really say, you haven't had some fun?
Do come and learn about Cadettes, your work has just begun.

PARENT: My daughter is fourteen now, as leader, I am through.
TRAINER: You can't stop now when, Seniors need advisors just like you.

PARENT: My daughter is sixteen and it's time for me to go.
TRAINER: You can't, not now, Ambassadors are our advocates and seek what you
now know.

PARENT: I have another girl, now she is seven, too.
TRAINER: Well aren't you glad you're so well trained. You know just what to
do.
PARENT: Oh, yes, indeed I know, I'm quitting Girl Scouts today.
TRAINER: But surely you have learned by now, you never get away.

TRAINER: And then the sad occasion comes. (S)he ends her(his) worldly care.
"Welcome," says spiritual guide, " Your troop is over there."

Brownie Puppet Try-It Event

Hello Leaders I\'ve had several people express interest in the Brownie Puppet Try-it Event. Here is the most recent and accurate information. Note the change in location. Puppets, Dolls, and Plays Brownie Try-it DATE: Sunday, November 23, 2008 TIME: 2 – 4 pm WHERE: Our Lady of Consolation Family Center, 4865 Eleven Mile Rd, Rockford WHO: Brownie Scouts COST: $4 per girl Cost includes all craft supplies, snack, and Try-it. Registration Deadline: Wednesday, November 19, 2008. We are limiting the event to 60 girls. Adults are free. If you have parents that want to come, that is fine. Remember to list them on the registration form. Please don\'t bring siblings as I can\'t guarantee we\'ll have enough snacks. OLC came through after our first location fell through. So I\'d like to support their efforts to help the Pregnancy Crisis Center. Please ask your girls to bring a donation for the center, something like a pack of diapers, baby wipes, baby shampoo or powder, etc. Use Rockford Service Unit registration form (available on the www.rockfordgs.com website) & send to Cindy Wadlow, 6914 Goldenrod Ave NE, Rockford or leave in a school drop box. the check should be made out to Rockford Girl Scouts. Remember: Don\'t leave cash in a school drop box. If you have any questions, please give me a call (304-2615) or drop me an email (beverlyd@charter.net). Hope to see you there! Girl Scouts Commemorative Coin

Enact Legislation for the Girl Scouts Commemorative Coin!
The Girl Scouts USA Centennial Commemorative Coin Act
In celebration of 100 years of Girl Scouting, we need your help to pass
legislation that will authorize the U.S. Mint to issue a Girl Scout
Commemorative Coin. For this to happen, we need you to contact your Members
of Congress to encourage them to pass "The Girl Scouts USA Centennial
Commemorative Coin Act."

Please join the Girls Scouts Advocacy Network and make your voice heard!
Click on "Take Action" at the Web site below, and you will be led through a
few short steps that will generate a letter to your Members of Congress,
asking that they support the Girl Scout Commemorative Coin bill. For this
bill to pass, we will need 290 House cosponsors and 67 Senate cosponsors. We
can reach these numbers, but there is some work to be done! Please take
action and invite others to do so as well.

Take Action! go to: http://www.girlscouts4girls.org/girlscouts/home/

Spread the word to all your members...we MUST do this! :)
