Cookie Booth information and updates

Subject: Cookie Booth information and updates

Hello,

The initial ordering portion of Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore’s 2009 cookie season is drawing to a close- but the season is hardly over!  Booth sales will be starting soon and we have extended booth sales an extra two weeks, from May 10th to May 31st!

If you have been hesitant or unsure of doing a booth sale, we would invite you to consider doing one- this is a great way to boost sales and earn more money for your troop!

We have heard from the bakeries that, nationwide, booth sales have seen an increase 0f 66% in sales from the previous year!  This is actually due to the recession… if a customer is hesitant to order too many boxes on the initial order because of job or economic uncertainty when delivery and payment comes due- they are more likely to buy cookies at a booth when they have cash in hand! (cookies are a comfort food, right!)

We are allowing unsold cookies picked up at cookie stations for cookie booths to be returned AND they don’t have to be paid for up front! You will fill out a receipt for the cookies taken.  Then within 24hrs (or Monday morning in the case of Saturday booths) return any unsold unopened cases and your total amount due will be adjusted.

Some troop leaders also order their booth cookies with their initial order rather than at a cookie station.  If you are unsure the benefits and disadvantages of each method, then take a look at the handy pros & cons chart we have included…

Attached is a Troop Cookie Booth Request & Registration form- If you would like to do a cookie booth sale, please fill it out and return it to our cookie booth coordinator, who is available to help you in two ways:

RE: [leaders] Questions for GS delegates

1. Girls will find it difficult to commit to two years. If we want girls as delegates leave requirements as they are. I am okay with allowing folks to run for 3 consecutive years.

2. More support with recruiting efforts.

3. Having a local service center is great. I borrow items that we couldn't afford to purchase. It is 25 minutes from my house and very useful. I am in about every other month. I think all properties should be maintained. As the word gets out folks will start traveling to use them and give the girls more economical choices on where to go for a weekend.

[leaders] GS Cookies blog

Leaders,

Several leaders had questions about ordering cookies. How many extra should I buy for cookie booths? What if I need more cookies? What if there are cookies left over? Etc.

Jane has started a cookie Blog on the website. Right from the homepage, you can go and get involved. If you have questions, advice, tips from past years, please feel free to share. New leaders have questions, experienced leaders have advice.

Thanks!

[leaders] Questions for GS delegates

Leaders,

The Delegates to the annual meeting were asked to review three questions with leaders in our area. Please read the questions and if you have any comments, thoughts, concerns, ideas, or whatever, let us know.

Of course, if you have other concerns that you would like to be addressed by the council board, feel free to add those thoughts as well.

Please feel free to respond by email to either bethreedy@charter.net or beverlyd@charter.net or you can go the blog at www.rockfordgs.com.

We need your responses by March 30, 2009.

Thanks for your input

1) The current by-laws state that Delegates/Alternates shall be elected for one (1) year and shall be eligible for re-election for one additional year term. Delegates/Alternates shall serve for no more that two (2) consecutive terms and shall be eligible for election again after the lapse of two years. Do you think that the term of service should be amended? And if so, should it be two years? Or three years? Should there be a term limit of 2 years?

2) Our council is committed to providing support and resources so that every girl who wants to participate in Girl Scouting has the opportunity to do so - how can we ensure that all girls feel welcome and benefit from the Girl Scout Leadership Experience?

3) In order to ensure that our council utilizes resources wisely - we are reviewing the effective use of service centers, satellite offices, camps and properties - what priorities should be considered in property usage?
