[leaders] UPDATE! Girl Scout Thinking Day 2011

Hello leaders!

The new date for our Girl Scout Thinking Day in 2011 is Saturday, March 5, from 1:00-3:30 pm, hosted at Assumption School in Belmont. (no longer scheduled during mid-winter break) We will begin and close with a flag ceremony and allow each group 20 minutes at each country/booth.

Currently, we have the following troops & countries presenting:
Troop 2731 Cadettes - Yemen
Troop 2731 Juniors - Lithuania
Troop 2380 Cadettes - Belgium

We are looking for 2 more Junior/Cadette troops to sponsor the WAGGGS-affiliated country booths at our event. (list of countries can be found here  http://www.wagggsworld.org/en/world) Your booth would need to have Girl Scout/Girl Guide information, activities (songs/games/a craft) and a snack representing that country for the younger girls who are attending. You will have 15-20 minutes to present to each group as they rotate throughout the gym. All the snacks will be served together at our "International Cafe" to minimize the mess. Your budget is approximately $1.00 per girl (for snack/craft), and your group would be reimbursed accordingly.

If your Junior/Cadette troop is interested in hosting a WAGGGS-country booth, please let me know soon, so that we can plan accordingly. Also let me know the country you are wanting to represent (first come, first served!).

And if you have a younger girl troop, Daisies & Brownies, I will have the event posted on our www.rockfordgs.com site soon for registration.

Thank you!

[leaders] Leader meeting tonight is on

Yes the meeting is on.
Although the kids had a "snow day" there is no rest for parent volunteers.

I have copied the agenda for tonight meeting and don't forget, at 630pm the service unit leadership team will share tips for leaders regarding GS ways, such as; ceremonies, SWAPS, songs, Kaper chart, girl participation with activity selection. I also hope to keep the meeting short so that if leaders or leaders who are from the same school need to talk or network there will be time. I would appreciate if could print this note so I can minimize the printing of the agenda. I will bring a few copies, but not a lot.

[leaders] Girl Scout X-mas Tree - FYI

Hey leaders-
Our Rockford Girl Scout Christmas Tree WON BEST OF SHOW at the Ford Museum Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony tonight!
Many thanks to all the girls who attended the tree lighting. It was nice to have a group of scouts go up and accept the award. And of course, a big thank you to all the troops and girls who contributed those handmade ornaments for the tree this year! It was evident that you all took time and effort to make your ornaments, and it was a wonderful display of Girl Scout Christmas spirit.
What a nice way start to the holiday season...
thanks,
Corie Ripple

[leaders] Girl Scout Thinking Day 2011

Hello leaders:
Our Cadette Troop is hosting the next Girl Scout Thinking Day in 2011. We are having it on Saturday, February 26 at Assumption School in Belmont.  World Thinking Day gives girls a chance to celebrate international friendships, and is a reminder that Girl Scouts of the USA is part of a global community—one of nearly 150 countries with Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. This event is attended by younger Girl Scouts, typically brownies and daisies.

We are looking for other Junior & Cadette troops to sponsor the WAGGGS-affiliated country booths at our event. The booth would need to have information, activities (songs/games/a craft) and a snack representing that country for the younger girls who are attending. The budget is approximately $1.00 per girl, and your group would be reimbursed accordingly. Last year 48 brownies/daisies attended and 6 troops hosted.

If your Junior/Cadette troop is interested in hosting a WAGGGS-country booth, please let me know soon, so that we can plan accordingly. Also let me know the country you are wanting to represent (first come, first served!).

Thank you!

[leaders] Girl Scout Christmas Tree - Ford Museum

Hi Leaders,
I am just reminding you all that I will be collecting ornaments at Monday's leader meeting for our Christmas Tree at the Ford Museum. We have about 12 troops making ornaments that I know of, but we'll always make room for more!

Also, I am looking for Girl Scout Cookie Boxes, or Fall Product tins, empty or full ;-), to place under the tree to showcase our products. I will return them to you after the tree comes down in January, so put your name or initials on them. I'll take these at the leader meeting too.

If your troop is making ornaments next week in a meeting, call or email me, and I will come pick them up.

Thanks for all your help and hard work to make our tree look great!

[leaders] Financial Assistance Forms/Family Champion

Leaders,

As I have been processing the registrations for this year, I have noticed an increase in the number of families requesting Financial Assistance for Registration and/or uniform/supplies/dues.  Please make sure that parents sign both forms.

Given today's tough economic times, it is not suprising that the number of requests has increased.  Which in turn means that GSMISTS will be even more in need of Family Champion funding.

The Family Champion campaign supports financial assistance for those families that need help.  GSMISTS prides itself on never turning away a request for assistance for membership and is trying to match that as well for other assistance.

As you are collecting the Parent/Guardian Consent form signatures (permission slip), please consider pointing out the Family Champion campaign to parents.  (A flyer about it is in the packet.) Or if you are still collecting registrations, there is a place on that form as well.  Obviously be sensitive to those families who might be in need of assistance.

Every year, Rockford requests more than it donates.  And there are many families who are blessed with financial security.  Please encourage those families to help out.  Even rounding out their registration fee to $20 (a donation of $8) will help.  Or double their registration and pay for another girl.  Or if they can give more, it is needed.  A donation of  $25 will get the Family Champion patch.

Thanks,
Beverly
