[leaders] Leader meeting tonight @ RUMC

Dear Rockford Girl Scout Leaders,

Reminder:  We have a leader planning meeting tonight, Monday, August 9, at Rockford United Methodist Church.  Business meeting from 7 – 8:30.
For all Girl Scout Leaders.  Everyone is welcome.  Service Team members, new leaders, everyone!
Questions: Call Beverly Dickinson at 874-8926 or beverlyd@charter.net.
Topics for discussion:
• Vacant positions – what to do if we don't have a director
• School Night and Recruitment in general
• Training
• Budget
• Events

Good News: Our Service Unit has:
 Treasurer: Kristy Neill
 Secretary & Newsletter: Lynn Surdock
 Day Camp Coordinators for next year: Holly Kinney & Lori Dettloff
 Cookie Sales Coordinators for next year: Jen Shook & Susan Witte
 Several School Reps
 Older Girl Coordinator: Beverly Dickinson
 Fantastic web page & webmaster: Jane Fabiano-Turner
 Recruitment Coordinator: Veronica Antel
 Publicity : Missy Vitkauskus

Bad News: Our Service Unit needs:
 Director
 Registrar (I'll do it if no one else will.)
 Adult Education Facilitator
 Mentors
 Event Coordinator

We really need someone to step up and be Director.  If we don't have one, Council will run our service unit and have to approve everything.  Do we want council supervising us for every detail?  We need to give council a name.  Please.  Can we maybe get a couple of co-directors to take turns?

Here are the main tasks of the Director.
Monthly meetings at Council (someone has to attend, but we can split among service team)
Run Service Unit Meeting monthly
Paperwork
"Buck stops Here" (to sign forms and make a final decision)

If you have not done your year end paperwork, council does still want it.  You need to do the following forms which are all on the www.gsmists.org/resources page
• Troop Detailed Cash Report
• Troop Annual Finance Report Form
• And the most recent copy of your troop bank statement

Please drop off at my house, 6237 Arroyo Vista, Rockford, (or bring it tonight) and I will make a copy for our Service Unit and get it to council.
Boy Scouts are celebrating their 100 years in 2010.  Boy Scout Troop 264 is a Hundred Year event on August 26, 27, and 28, in downtown Rockford.  They have been planning it all year and have some great ideas.  They want us to have a tent or booth about Rockford Girl Scouts, which I think will be great for recruitment.  So we need some ideas for crafts (SWAPS probably) and posters and displays and photos etc.  Send me your ideas and we'll talk more about it at the August 9 meeting.

Thanks again for hanging in there with me.
Beverly

PS:  If you are not returning as a leader, please let me know.  But you will have to remove yourself from the mailing list.  Go to our website, www.rockfordgs.com, and click on the mailing list link.  There are instructions to remove yourself from the mailing list.

[leaders] GS at Rockford Reading Festival

Girl Scout Leaders,

We just received a request to help out at the "Reading Rocks in Rockford" festival in downtown Rockford sponsored by the Rockford Rotary on Saturday, August 7.  (Yes Tomorrow!  They had sent a request earlier this week, but due to some vacations and delays, we finally touched base today. )

You can get more information (and some coupons) at the Rotary website, www.rockfordmirotary.org.

Sue Bodenner is the contact at the Rotary Club.  They are hoping some Girl Scouts can help in several ways.
1. Hand out brochures at the Farmer's Market
2. Promote the storybook boards by the museum
3. Help run prizes/drawings stations (not taking money)
4. Guide storybook characters in costume (because they can't see in those big heads.  For older scouts only)
5.  Maybe some other ways if you have any ideas

And Sue wanted to invite girls and leaders to attend the event and think about more ways Girl Scouts could be involved in the future as the event continues to grow.

This is a great community service opportunity and can help meet requirements for several books/reading try-its, badges, IPPs.

You would not need your whole troop; maybe just a few girls or just you and your daughter.  SCOUTS SHOULD BE IN UNIFORM.

Contact Sue directly if you are interested in helping.  Her phone is 866-2002 or email is sbodenner@gmail.com.

Thanks!
