We have an excellent opportunity for a Fall Booth Sale next week. The Seidman Center at 139 Crofton SE, GR 49507 (Boys & Girls Club) is allowing troops to sell onsite 11 AM-5 PM, Monday-Wednesday, Dec.19-21. GSMISTS has already sent over a special flyer that will go home to parents about the sale.

Since booth sales are done- we are offering troops a special kickback of $2 per can of whatever is sold! You heard that right--- troops receive $2 for each can of nuts/candy that they sell! If your troop is looking to earn money- please contact me asap as these spots will go quickly.  Whatever product doesn't sell- you can return to the GR Service Center.

If your troop is available over the holiday break for these days- contact me at: tmyers@gsmists.org or call 616-784-3341 x 142.

*You don't have to have sold fall product to be eligible for this opportunity!

[leaders] Tomorrow

Hello, I have had a few inquiries about tomorrow's meeting. Here are the details,

The "Cookie Team" just learned this past week about the timeline for Cookie sales and with that knowledge they needed to set the cookie training for December verses January. Therefore, the training will occur following tomorrow's meeting ~745 / 8 pm.

The council will be having a kick of event in January-I think it is on the weekend before out January meeting.  If you have never taken your girls OR feel that maybe you need more information about cookies etc; I would highly suggest that you do this event with your girls OR have a parent take their child. there is registration via the council for this event.

[leaders] Monday December 12, 2011 6:59pm

Hello Adult Volunteers,

I hope everyone is enjoying the season and preparing for best event yet!

Just a reminder, we so have a meeting this coming monday. Sandy will be leading the meeting as I do have a previous committment; see we all do have something.

A quick run down to plan for:

summary of the Christmas tree-Cori has been sending out updates, but I just want to be sure any additional questions are answered. BAsically, Cori is seeking to know who is requesting a reinbursement for the supplies to make ornaments. BUT a store reciept is needed.

Santa parade: I will need to know exact numbers of those scouts who attended the parade. I have recieved a couple of notices, but I am sure there are additional troops participated.  I apologize for not attending, there was a surprize b-day party for a family member which also included relatives from Canada on that day....

Cookie training will occur following the meeting. As with fall products, a registered adult will need to be in attendance or the troop will not be able to sell. Of note, all girls will need to be registered.

Need to review/update the website to include 2012 activities. so can those leaders who have accepted the challenge to organize an activity, please prepare to update the group.

GS Registration: Two things that are pressing our service unit,
1. Veronica Antel has worked very diligently to find troops for girls and likewise she has also helped to form new troops. Veronica would appreciate showing another leader her role as she has done the role of recruitment for two years.  It is time for another person to learn/help with this need for our service unit.

2. Sandy has been working very diligently with council to correct/understand the current state of our troop and girl count.

Over the course of a few months, we have had a notable decrease in troop/girl participation; we also have lost a whole school. What this means in the long run, is that girls who might not otherwise be able to participate in activities because maybe they weren't athletically inclined or smart enough are being excluded from scouting. I what I am implying, scouting is for all and not an exclusive group. We should welcome all girls as maybe they haven't been welcomed before.  I feel that Missy V and Neda have truly embraced this overall acceptance. They have accepted girls into their troops when others said no.  Can we try to show girls that adults can accept others into a troop? To my knowledge, scouting has not had the "exclusive" rule. Please consider accepting those girls who are waiting for a troop.

Until then, Kathleen

[leaders] Christmas tree ornament reimbursements

Hello Leaders-

For those of you who did provide ornaments for our service unit's Christmas Tree at the Ford Museum, you can give me your receipts for your ornament supplies and the museum will reimburse our group up to $250. So that averages out to about $16 per troop who participated. If you are interested in getting reimbursed, please send me your information by the next leader's meeting on December 12, or mail it to me at the address below. Typically the checks will arrive in January sometime.

Item's needed for reimbursement are:
1. Receipt with your Troop Number on it
2. Info on who the check should be written out to

And go see the trees... they all look great!

Thanks,

[leaders] Fw: Rockford Santa Parade - sell Girl Scout Fall product

Hello Leaders!  Here is a great opportunity for your troop to earn addtional money!
- See Jered's note way below regarding the extension of the Fall Product Booth Sales to Dec 11th.

All troops are eligibile (you do not need to have taken the Fall Product training) since its a simple "you take, you sell, you pay" scenario.

- See Taryn's note below for the 20% incentive for Booth Sales at the Rockford Holiday Parade.
Not sure if the 20% extends to all Booth Sales (not limited to the parade), so its worth asking about!

Good luck!

Dear Service Unit Directors and Adult Learning Facilitators,
The new Safety Activity Checkpoints 2011-12 is now available online at http://www.gsmists.org/Volunteer-Zone/Resources.  We will provide two hard copies for all Service Units and have them ready for distribution at our January LCMs.  We will also provide a hard copy for ALFs to assist them in their session facilitations.
There are several changes in the new resource.  Going forward, if there are fewer yearly changes GSUSA may only replace pages.  You may continue to use your current copies until we make available your new hard copies.  Thanks!

[leaders] Monday October 10, 2011

Hello Adult Volunteer's,

Just a friendly reminder that this coming Monday is our Monthly gathering.  Some highlights for the meeting will be:

Discussion on the GS handbook/jurney and the tranision for the new badges etc. A representative from from council will be there to educate us and then enable questions and answers.

Update on the fall/holiday service unit events:
Ford Museum Christmas Tree
Santa Parade

Review the discussion of events for our sevice unit. (Bev obtained this info at our September meeting.

Update on Troop/girl placement. (Veronica has done an outstanding job on this)

FINALLY, Sarah will be informing us on the Fall Product Information. Remember, all parents/guardians need to sign the consent form. I do have many of these in case you need some.

Things to think about: is anyone interested in taking the reigns on our website. Jane says that this is her last year and that we need to not only have have someone who can be the webmaster, but who can also manage the website not using Jane's companies web address. I do not understand all of this, but we need  a person who does understand web design/maintance.

I welcome additional topics to discuss. Looking forward to seeing you, Kathleen

Hello everyone to the 2011-2012 year of Rockford Scouting.

I just wanted to send a friendly reminder that we are coming onto the second Monday of the Month which is our usual meeting time. I did insert our meeting dates on the calendar section of the Rockford Girl Scout Web Page. Please encourage co-leaders and those active adult volunteers for the troop to attend.  It might just make it easier in the long run.

Our meetings will begin at 6:55 and end at 7:55.  For those who might have questions etc. I am still planning on being at the Rockford United Methodist Church (on Maple Street) around 6pm.

There have been changes at council to share as well as provide those leaders with the proper paperwork to begin the new calendar year and refresh those experience leaders. The leadership group is in need of help too.

One last thing, if you can bring any ideas for activities that our local service unit to support; that would "be a good thing" as Martha Stewart would say. If you are unable to added, please let me know so that I can arrange to get the information to you.

Thank you very much for your commitment to Scouting. Kathleen Bell

[leaders] Girl Scouts End of year reports

Leaders,

All troops must turn in End of Year reports.  They were due June 1.   These are important to  your reputation as a leader, and to  our reputation as a service unit.

I have only received troop reports from the following troops.
1579
1597
1894
2314
2731
2808
3154
3366
3383
3551
3725
3842
3951
4013

The reports consist of the Annual Finance Report, the Detailed Cash report, a copy of the most recent bank statement AND the 4 page Leader activity report.

The Finance report and detailed cash report are available on our website  http://www.rockfordgs.com/forms/index.php.  If your troop is disbanding, there is also a disbanding report (same link).

We do not have electronic copies of the Leader activity report.  There is a stash on my front porch.    These troops have turned in everything except this report.
3383
3551
3725

I know that some of you may have turned in your reports directly to council. If so, please let me know.  If you have not done your reports yet, please give me or Kathleen a call and we can help you.

Thanks,
Beverly

[leaders] Day Camp Volunteer Training

We will be holding the volunteer training for day camp Tuesday, June 28 and Wednesday, July 6th.  The meeting times are from 7-9 and will be held at Holly Kinney's house.

5427 N Silverstone
Comstock Park, 49321
Holly's # 647-1084

It is required by council that all volunteers attend one of these sessions for training (if neither date works, please contact Holly or myself ASAP so we can figure out something).

PS:  We really could use some more adult volunteers too!

Thanks,
Jennifer Cook

[leaders] Rockford Reading celebration

Jane sent this email to all leaders in April.  The reading celebration will be here before you know it.  I am on the

hospitality committee and I definitely need your help to make this celebration a success.

I received one email stating 2 girls are interested....  Is there anyone else?  My troop has worked this

celebration the past few years and had a great time.  This is an excellent volunteer opportunity and I am

sure could be used toward some badge.
