[Leaders] Two Missing Checks found at Thinking Day

After Thinking Day on Saturday, one of my parents found 2 checks in the parking lot of the church. They were both made out to GSMISTS. One was from Anthony Calcagno and Amanda Merrill. The other was from Jeffrey Schroeder. This one had "Girl Scout Cookies" in the memo line. Do these checks belong to you?

[Leaders] Cookie orders

Leaders,

Please forward this to your cookie person if appropriate--some folks haven't been getting the Ebudde emails so I'm sending via the new email list.

When submitting your initial cookie order, please also submit your initial incentive order.  Final incentives are later, but the initial incentive order (the water bottle) is now--it only applies to the initial order.

I don't see cookie orders yet for the following troops:

1894 2598 2671 3020 3360 3365 3366 3383 3540 3548 3551 3552 3593 3839 3974 4211

Deadline is Wednesday February 22nd for orders to be in to the service unit.  Problems or questions (or did I mess up)?  Please let me know.

Thanks
Charlie

[Leaders] Ebudde working again now

Leaders,

Council emailed to say Ebudde should be working again now.  I suspect you may have to log out and back in to get it to work.  If after that you still have problems, please let me know.

Thanks
Charlie

--Forwarded message follows--
The ebudde issues have been fixed.  You should be able to enter and submit your initial order now.
Thanks for your patience!

[Leaders] Ebudde not working

Leaders,

It appears that Ebudde is not working today--it isn't letting anyone enter cookie orders.  Existing orders that have already been entered are fine, but new ones can't be entered.  We have emails and phone messages in to people at Council, but haven't heard anything yet.

[Leaders] Feb Meeting minutes

February 13, 2012 Meeting Minutes

Council is promoting making plastic sleeping mats.  There is an event on February 25th at Aquinas College.  See GSMISTS website for more information.  For instructions you can go to U-tube and search for homeless sleeping mats or plastic mats.

First Aid/CPR is being offered at Hope Community Church and registration is due is Feb. 22nd.  Class is on Saturday, February 25th from 10:00-1:00pm.  Cost is only $10.00.  This was advertised in the local paper.  Email contact is office@hoperockford.org.  Address of church is 7000 Myers Lake Ave.

Thinking Day – we have a nut allergy so no nuts please.

My guy and me cake event registration is now closed.  Capacity has been met.

Recognitions are due in to Jane ASAP.  Deadline is March 1st.  Also if anyone is interested in this position for next year please contact the service unit and Jane can walk you through the process.  Commitment is after the Christmas Holidays.

Cookie sales end this Friday, February 17th.  March 23rd the booth sales start.  Sign up for the cookie pick-up with Charlie.  Date is March 22nd from Noon to six.  Check with back about deposits.   There is a fee at Fifth Third if you make more than 150 transactions in a month.  Each check deposit is a transaction.

We will be asking for volunteers for a variety of leadership roles for next year.  Please consider taking on one of these roles.

Kathleen has a few spare Santa Parade patches.  Please let her know if you need one.

Operation Christmas Child was a huge success.  The final numbers from Operation Christmas Child are in and I am excited to share with you that 8,630,568 shoe box gifts were packed in 2011 making this the largest collection ever!  Our shoe boxes from West Michigan have been shipped to both India and Zambia.  How exciting to think of what the Lord will do with the 2,850 shoe box gifts that passed through our Relay Center in November!  Check out a few videos.  It is a great way to show the girls some of the children they touched.

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Operation-Christmas-Child-West-MI/161419547275621

Day Camp is being offered at Camp Rockford from July 9-12 from 9:00-3:00.  If you can volunteer for the 4 days, a day, a few hours, time before camp, etc.  Please contact Beverly Dickinson or Sue Passarelli.  Theme is “100 Years of Girl Scouts”. If you are interested in walking around in costume talking about Julliet Lowe please advise.  Girls 6th grade and up can be Day Camp Aids.  More information to follow.  We are in need of someone to run the boys unit – ages 4-10.

Our service unit is looking at ordering t-shirts to wear for the start of summer parade.  These can also be purchased to wear on troop outings.  More details next month.  A design was selected at the Feb meeting.

Every year there is an email that goes out the Girl Scouts supports Planned Parenthood.  There is no association between Girl Scouts and Planned Parenthood.  If your daughter runs into this when selling door to door please contact council and their PR person will contact that person directly to correct the mis-information.

Keep in mind permission slips are required for events and an event that discussed sensitive topics needs to be signed off via permission slip with the parent.

Council is organizing an event to travel to Washington D.C. for the 100 year Girl Scout event on the Mall.  Cost is $390 per girl and they will be staying in a hotel, a few meals and travel is included.  Event is June 7-9.  Keep in mind the last few days of school will be missed.

Mackinaw council event is the weekend of May 11th.

The Jamboree was a success.  If you have not received the pictures of your troop please make contact.  Photos from the event are now available.

Dear Girl Scout Volunteers,
Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore has chosen to take on the issue of plastic waste for our 100th Anniversary Girl Scout Forever Green (GSFG) Project. Girl Scouts around the world are switching to reusable bags and bottles as they learn about how plastic waste affects the environment. Our project, to help accomplish this goal of raising awareness and working to reduce plastic waste in our environment, is crocheting plastic grocery bags into  Mats for Haiti! This project will not only help keep plastic bags out of landfills but also teach the art of crocheting to anyone who wants to learn this useful skill. These mats are then used as packing insulation for medical supplies and other items being sent to Haiti. Once in Haiti, they will be distributed to schools, hospitals and orphanages to help provide a sterile barrier to dirt floors along with adding comfort from sitting on the ground. One important aspect to this project  is getting the Girl Scouts and community members who want to join us in reducing/repurposing the plastic in our environment to sign up and take the pledge at www.gsmists.org/100. At this website you will also see the steps to completing our Mats for Haiti project and locations where you can learn all the steps to making plastic bag mats. If you have any questions about this project please contact Matt Witkowski, Volunteer Services Manager  (Traverse City) at mwitkowski@gsmists.org.
These events will be a fun opportunity to learn a new skill, see girls and adults of all ages coming together for a common goal. It is also a wonderful way to kick off starting to make your mats! After these events you will have until April 21st to work on and drop off mats at your regional locations. I have attached a flier and information sheet that can be copied to the back of the flier to help promote the Girl Scout Forever Green Project. Let's spread the word, get people to take the pledge (non-Girl Scouts can take the pledge too!) and learn a new skill that taps into your creative side. Each mat takes about 70 bags to make so start collecting bags (fold, don't scrunch if possible) in your community and let's get girls of all ages involved. People interested in making these mats will have to purchase size "N" crochet needles or see if you can borrow them from a friend. Instructions will be available at the events or posted online after the events for those who were unable to make it. This is an exciting time at Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore and we are excited to do our part with the National Forever Green Initiative 2012. We look forward to seeing you at one of the dates listed below or seeing your completed mat on April 21, 2012!
