Family Champion update
May, 2012

Why Family Champion?
  •  Did you know that Girl Scout families received over $48,000 in financial assistance from Council in last year so all girls who wanted to become Girl Scouts could do so?
  •  That over 3,000 adult volunteers are trained, provided with   materials and supported so they can do the great jobs that they do.
  • That we have five camp properties that our Girl Scouts use every year.
Family Champion helps support these programs.

Good Reasons to be a Family Champion!
 1. Breaking News: Every dollar that you contribute from April 20 - September 30, 2012, will be matched dollar for dollar - to support Council programs through the Centennial Leadership Challenge! Your $5 becomes $10, $25 becomes $50, $100 becomes $200!

2. Your service unit receives 10% of the total it raises for girl programs.

3. You can make a difference in the life of a girl!

The Family Champion Campaign is GSMISTS' only 'internal' fundraising campaign and we depend on Girl Scout families, troops, service units and friends to help us reach our goal of $22,000 - an average of $2 per Girl Scout.

 How to Give?
Go to Family Champion and click on your Service Unit number; drop your donation off at any Service Center or mail it to 3275 Walker NW,   Grand Rapids, MI 49544 Attn: Family Champion (please include your Service Unit number!)

 Questions?  Call 616-784-3341 x 141. or email to mrobinson@gsmists.org

Thank you for your generosity! With your help, Girl Scouts will continue to build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.

[Leaders] Start of summer parade

I need final counts of who is walking in the parade. Please send me #of adults, #girls and the troop level they were for 2011-2012 (not what level they just bridged to).

Cadette Leader/Advisors,

Do you have Girl Scouts currently in 6-8th grade who would like a new challenge…something different to try in GS?  Perhaps having fun with other middle school girls while learning new skills – even leadership skills - so they feel comfortable speaking in front of a group, learn how to plan activities and more?  Or maybe your girls are into earning awards.  We have a 'Cadette Leadership Course' coming up Saturday, June 2, at the Grand Rapids Service Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  This class is the second step for girls who are working on their Program Aide Award (see page 30 in the new Cadette Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting).  Cadette girls who might like to earn this award or who may have already earned their LiA (Leader in Action) by working with Brownies on their Journey are invited to come to this course!

The fee is $20 and includes their own Cadette Program Aide notebook, all activities plus a two hour specialty (girls will decide from Team Building, Songs & Games, or Outdoor Skills), and once they've completed the three steps to earn the Program Aide Award pin, they will turn in their completed checklist/record form to receive their new Cadette Program Aide pin at no additional fee.  All this PLUS lunch, beverages and morning and afternoon snacks are included!  Girls/Families or 01 Troop Leaders can sign up girls online through eBiz at http://gsusa.ebiz.uapps.net/vp/tabid/737/Default.aspx?pid=42&ProductCode=GL***** or click on the eBiz link at the top of our home page.

This course is also a pre-requisite for girls who will be serving as Day Camp Aides.  Cookie Dough will be mailed out soon so if girls are waiting for that, they will need to complete a paper registration (found in the back of the GPS calendar) and mail in their form with a note that they are waiting for their Cookie Dough.  Deadline to register for this event/training is Wed, May 30.  Thanks!

Re: [Leaders] FW: forward confirmation of bridging troops

I have a Bridging Certificate and pin left by Zoe DeHaan from troop 3951 that was left at Bridging tonight.  I also have a Brownie leader guide that was left behind.  If it belongs to you, please get in touch with me.

Thank you,

Pattie, Site Coordinator at CAB, is coordinating several troop camp opportunities at both CAB and Saki this summer take a look at what was just added to our website yesterday at http://www.gsmists.org/Pathways/troopcamps There are even horseback riding options at CAB during Troop Camp!
The Works Troop Camp is a three day/two night experience where camp trained staff is provided AND one of the adults can take the Troop Camp Leadership I course at no additional cost during your stay.  Check it out!
Adventure Troop Camp includes both camp staff planned activities AND troop planned/led activities for those who have activities they want to bring to and complete and camp.  Troop Camp trained volunteer is encouraged but not required for this option.
Choose your own Adventure Troop Camp is just that select your activities and sleeping accommodations.  You must supply your own troop camp trained volunteer.
The options in the Summer Troop Camp brochure contain great ideas for troops who haven't voted what to do with their cookie proceeds yet!
Please forward this e-mail to troop leaders thank you!
Pathways Manager Jackie Franklin is covering both the Grand Rapids and Muskegon Service Centers at the present time so any Pathways questions or requests (program/events/camp/etc) can be forwarded to her at jfranklin@gsmists.org.
This e-mail/information differs from the Resident Camp/Summer Camp Guide link http://www.gsmists.org/Pathways/camps I sent earlier this week.

Hi! My name is Stephani Sawicki and I am a senior at Rockford High School. I am currently working on my Girl Scout Gold Award Project. I am creating a book room / "Learning Library" at St. Johns Home (a residential home for children ages 6-17). In order to make this project a success, I am in need of furnishings for the library. Any book donations appropriate for ages 6-17 are appreciated. Both new and gently used books are welcome. In addition, I  am looking for floor pillow and beanbag cover donations. Both of these things can be homemade and would be a fun troop project for anyone who likes to sew! An ideal size for beanbags would be approximately large enough to fit a teenager and the floor pillows  can be 28"x28" or larger. I really appreciate all and any help you have to offer! Please feel free to email me at stephani.sawicki@hotmail.com with any questions or suggestions you may have.

Thank You!

Stephani Sawicki

p.s. I am hoping to have this project finished by the end of June 2012.

Subject: Gold Award Project
