We will be holding the volunteer training for day camp Tuesday, June 28 and Wednesday, July 6th.  The meeting times are from 7-9 and will be held at Holly Kinney's house.

5427 N Silverstone
Comstock Park, 49321
Holly's # 647-1084

It is required by council that all volunteers attend one of these sessions for training (if neither date works, please contact Holly or myself ASAP so we can figure out something).

PS:  We really could use some more adult volunteers too!

Thanks,
Jennifer Cook

[leaders] Rockford Reading celebration

Jane sent this email to all leaders in April.  The reading celebration will be here before you know it.  I am on the

hospitality committee and I definitely need your help to make this celebration a success.

I received one email stating 2 girls are interested....  Is there anyone else?  My troop has worked this

celebration the past few years and had a great time.  This is an excellent volunteer opportunity and I am

sure could be used toward some badge.

[leaders] Day Camp Updates

Good Afternoon Leaders!!

Holly, Beverly, and myself are working really hard to make day camp this year successful, but we need more adult volunteers for that to happen.  Please let us know ASAP if you plan to help, and in what way you are available.  If you already did say you would help, could you please just quick reply to this email and let me know what job you signed up to do so we can compare it to other notes we have?

We still need someone to work the first aid tent.  You don't have to be a nurse, just First Aid and CPR certified.

Our volunteer training nights are planned for Tuesday, June 28th from 7-9pm and Wednesday, July 6 from 7-9pm.  All volunteers must attend one of these sessions, along with the set-up and training at camp on Sunday, July 10 from 1-4.  Please let us know ASAP if none of these work for you and we will see what we can work out.  Council requires 4 hours of training for camp volunteers.

If you could please forward this to the parents in your troops to try to get more help on board, we would greatly appreciate it.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you,
Jennifer Cook (363-0604 or 780-5274)

[leaders] Newest Day Camp Update

Leaders,

Things are looking up.  We are finally listed on the Council Website and they put a blast on Facebook yesterday about  our  camp.  There are some changes so please keep reading!

Rockford GS Daycamp-"World Traditions" (exploring holiday traditions around the world)
Holidays include:
• Halloween (United States)
• Carnival (Brazil)
• Hinamatsuri  Doll Festival (Japan)
• Bastille Day (France)

Dates: July 11th -14th    Time: 9am-3pm
Where: Camp Rockford on Rector Rd in Rockford (off of Summit between 12 & 13 mile road)

Here's the link to council.  http://www.gsmists.org/_webapp_3970426/World_Traditions_-_Rockford_Day_Camp

However, you really cannot register on line at this point.  There will be a link to "register online."  Click it to get the forms.  You must print the forms and fill them in.  Take them to council or Fax them at 784-8187.

VERY IMPORTANT:  NEW FOR VOLUNTEERS:  If you are signed up as an adult volunteer for daycamp, you do need to register your daughter with Council.  This is new this year.  Your daughter is guaranteed a spot in camp and please also sign up to volunteer online at http://www.rockfordgs.com/webforms/day_camp.php

We have openings for girls.  Very few 4th, 5th, & 6th graders are signed up.  If your troop is in this range, please send out the info to register.  Please send it for younger girls as well, of course.

Still could use some aides - girls going into 7th grade and up.  They can get trained at camp.  They need to signup on our website http://www.rockfordgs.com/webforms/day_camp.php
Jane and Nedra are coordinating the aide training and signup (thanks Jane & Nedra).

Still need a nurse.  Only has to be 1st aid/CPR certified.

Still need adult volunteers.  Does not have to be a leader.  Could be a parent in your troop, a dad, a grand parent, college student, etc.

Need a Boys unit leader.

Thanks very much for your responses.

[leaders] Day Camp Update

All,

It was pointed out to me that I didn't list the important information about when and where day camp is going to be held.  Oops.

So that information follows.  And here's the update.

We have: an approved budget, a shopping list, a co director (Jen Cook thank you), a life guard, several more adult volunteers and aides.

We still need: a "nurse" (really only has to be CPR/First aid certified.  A great job for a parent volunteer.  Easily part time if you can only help one day), some more volunteers,  a boy's unit leader, to actually get listed on the web site, and some more girls to sign up.

So, please spread the news.  Having parents call council to sign up the girls at 784-3341 seems to be the best technique at the moment.

Adult volunteers and aides: sign up at our website, http://www.rockfordgs.com/webforms/day_camp.php

Thank you again for your responses.

[leaders] Day camp - help needed

Leaders,

Day camp this year is in trouble and we need your help.  Due to family and personal reasons, Lori Dettloff will not be able to be a co-director.

Due to council delays and difficulties, we do NOT have
a list of volunteers
an approved budget from council
the camp posted on Countil's Day Camp website
more than 40 girls signed up  (see above issue)
any supplies ordered (due to no approved budget)
any paperwork on girls or adults

We have repeatedly asked council for help and information.  Everything logical cries out that we should not host day camp this year.  We will not be holding the evening camp.  But 100 girls usually come to this camp and aides want to volunteer.  Not having the camp will make Rockford Girl Scouts look bad and make girls miss out.  I just feel sick thinking about it.

Holly is presenting the final budget to council tomorrow so that if approved, we might be able to start ordering supplies.

Holly and I have decided to make Friday the decision day.

By Friday - we need from from council: an approved budget, the day camp posted, a list of girls, and paperwork.

By Friday - we need from our leaders and girl scout neighborhood:
a co-director
a nurse
20 adults signed up as unit leaders and craft and boys unit, etc
girls to be signing up

I do not know if the refunds will be approved this year.  So I can't promise that at all.  If you have signed up with our website, please email me and  check that your name is on the list.  Please remember that a day camp volunteer does NOT have to be a leader.  We need moms, dads, aides, etc.

I know that many of you have tried to sign up and can't find it.  I sympathize and we have been trying.  Call Council - 784-3341 and ask for Sandy Kohne.  Tell them you need to sign up for Rockford Day camp.

If we have a co-director, a budget, have the camp posted, can start ordering supplies, and have people signing up to be unit leaders, we might be able to pull this off.

If we don't have these items in place by Friday, we will not have day camp this year.

Thanks,
Beverly
